Approach! and learn new wisdom from the wise!»

Syren Military Sword: The Siren’s Song

Where the sea meets the hills, a siren yearned for something more than her solitude. With a voice that echoed the depths, she longed to walk among the land-dwellers and converse as they did. But as she sang her song, her words were so deep that people didn’t understand her. She had to change herself then, to speak the only language they could hear, acute and sharp: the crystal screeching of a blade.

Syren Military Sword is a prime example of a German military sword, inspired by an original artifact at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, inv. IX.1288.

The Syren’s hilt is forged in heat-treated steel, featuring recurved quillons—one elegantly extending into a protective knuckle guard. A gracefully curved shell guard offers comprehensive hand protection, while a thumb ring ensures control and comfort, allowing fencers to maneuver the already nimble blade with confidence. Hand-filed grooves delicately adorn the shell and flattened oval pommel, while the spiraled grip ensures ergonomy and a secure hold during extended use.

The blade maintains a perfect balance of versatility and artistry. Its narrow double fullers run the length of the blade before it transitions from single-edged to double-edged, ending in a rounded, diamond-section tip. This profile reflects the adaptability of German military swords—quick, responsive, and reliable for thrusting and cutting techniques.

Moreover, the marine tail theme is meticulously maintained throughout the entire baldric and scabbard, from the silver-plated shell strap ends to the handmade leather tooling. In fact, the scabbard features handmade leather tooling and silver-plated shell strap ends, with a central wave pattern evocative of the sea’s eternal motion. The original artifact’s influence is honored with authenticity, while the fin and scale motifs lend a unique artistic signature.

This project also marks a milestone for us at Malleus Martialis, showcasing our expertise and passion for craftsmanship. The creative freedom entrusted to us allowed the Syren to truly shine—a fusion of historical reverence and original artistry.
