Elector Rapier: The Saxon Military Style
The Elector Rapier aims to pay tribute to the grandeur of the Saxon court between the late 16th century and the beginning of 17th century. This rapier is a refined recreation of the iconic rapiers wielded by noble members of the Saxon court and commanding officers of the electoral guard, drawing from the elegance and power seen in historical counterparts like the Reitschwert in the Philadelphia Museum of Art and similar designs found in the MET and the Detroit Institute of Art.
The Elector Rapier also aligns seamlessly with the fencing methods of Vincentio Saviolo, a renowned Italian fencing master who settled in London around 1590. Saviolo’s treatise, “His Practise, in Two Bookes” published in 1595, presents a system of rapier fencing that synthesizes Italian and Spanish concepts, structured as a dialogue between master and student.
Along with its captivating and aggressive design, this Saxon Military Rapier features an exquisite faceted spherical pommel, a three-branches counterguard and a wider big port. Completely dismountable as all our Modular Sword System™ swords, it can also be customized with a braided iron wire wrapping.
The grip offers a more substantial feel for better handling, while the guard is heat-treated. The wide, acute quillons and robust blade ensure a reliable defensive structure, ideal for high-stakes historical combat simulation and technical practice in Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA).
FEATURES:
- Robust and balanced: Around 1.4 kilograms, optimized for late 16th-century military fencing techniques, such as those used by Vincentio Saviolo.
- Heat-treated crossguard and blade: Ensures resilience and durability.
- Historical spiky quillons and three branches counterguard: Inspired by Saxon court styles for an authentic look.
- Diamond wide, solid blade: Provides superior control and structure in binding maneuvers.
- Comfortable ricasso: Rounded ricasso enhances grip comfort.
- Blunt edges, high flexibility, and thickened tip: Prioritizes safety in HEMA training and competition.
- Historical design with modern upgrades: Based on originals in prominent museum collections, tailored specifically for Historical European Martial Arts and Historical Fencing.
The Elector Rapier achieves an ideal dynamic ratio, balancing weight with precision for effective control and authoritative handling. It exemplifies the prestige of the Saxon officers while offering robust functionality for modern practitioners who aim to train the military rapier techniques with an appropriate training sword.
