Zogho Stretto Longsword: Literally, Tor di Spada!
The Zogho Stretto Longsword, for Medieval Armored Combat is a specialized longsword designed for Reenactment, HEMA fencing in plate armor or Harnishfechten. Inspired by the in armis swords depicted in Fiore dei Liberi’s Flos Duellatorum (1409), this sword excels in close-range armored fighting, also known as “Zogho Stretto”, gioco stretto or close play.
E llo elzo vole esser forte e aguzzo e ben temperado e llo pomo vole esser cum bona punta e vole esser grave. Fiore dei Liberi, Flos Duellatorum, 35r
Features:
- Central ricasso: Enables armored fighters to securely grip the blade, using it in the half-sword, like a lance for thrusting into vulnerable points in armor.
- Stiffness: the sword is stiff to be effective during the execution of plays and levers.
- Thickened tip and thick edge: Designed for safety during combat and practice.
- Historical design: Based on the second of the two “In Armis” swords shown in the Getty Manuscript, with influences from later surviving examples.
- Technique references: Techniques for similar swords are featured also in Filippo Vadi’s De Arte Gladiatoria Dimicandi (1482-87), but also in the Gladiatoria Fechtbuch manuals, contemporary with the Lichtenauer tradition, making it ideal for armored longsword combat
- Collector’s quality: A fully functional, authentic piece, ideal for reenactment, collections and historical fencing.
Optimize your armored combat skills and techniques with the Zogho Stretto Longsword, crafted for competition, tournaments, historical accuracy, and durability in close play fighting.
