Diestro Sidesword: The Skillful Way

The Diestro Sidesword Op.II, or Opera Seconda, is the refined second edition of our classic Diestro and previous Agrippa. Brilliantly named by Maestro David Rawlings of the London Longsword Academy, the Diestro was designed for the Bolognese fencing tradition and serves as a versatile introduction to the Destreza system. After valuable feedback from our users, the Diestro has been completely reimagined while adhering to the core principles of the first model, offering a sidesword that is ergonomic, practical, and safe.

Our latest redesign focuses on improving wrist ergonomics with the new fig pommel, advancing our universal “Modular Sword System™” goal. The grip offers a more substantial feel for better handling, while the guard is heat-treated and includes an extended knuckle bow that adds extra room toward the pommel for glove support. The quillons are available in two configurations, straight or curved, allowing the fencer to tailor the guard geometry to their handling preference and aesthetic sensibility. The squared blocks on the finger rings add a touch of elegance across both configurations.

CARE TIPS

Blade and Hilt Maintenance: After use, always clean the blade, pommel, and crossguard with oils like Gunex or WD40.
Grip Care: Avoid applying oil to a cord grip. Instead, gently clean it by rubbing with a cloth soaked in a mixture of baking soda and vinegar.
Leather Grip Care: Keep your leather grip nourished with leather oil or grease, but remember— protective products will darken the shade over time.
Rust Prevention: Promptly address any rust, as it can penetrate beneath the surface of the steel, causing damage.
Storage Guidelines: Store your sword in a dry environment and away from damp gear.
Damage Prevention: Always round nicks or dents with a flat file to prevent breakages.
