Meyer Rappier: The Meister’s extension

The Meyer Rappier is a refined tribute to Joachim Meyer, one of the most influential German fencing masters of the Renaissance. Known for his comprehensive treatise, Gründtliche Beschreibung, der freyen Ritterlichen unnd Adelichen Kunst des Fechtens (1570), Meyer developed structured techniques for longsword, rapier and dussack combat. This rapier reflects his vision, crafted to align with the principles laid out in his fencing system.

Designed directly from the illustrations in Meyer’s work, this rapier features a wide diamond-section blade complemented by a distinctive Schilt. Located just below the crossguard, the Schilt serves multiple purposes, providing finger protection and redirecting strikes, facilitating  thumb-on-blade techniques.

The Meyer Rapier incorporates our Modular Sword System™, so it’s fully dismountable. Its big port and straight, wide crossguard with a knuckle bow ensure reliable hand coverage and structural integrity along with the blade’s schilt. The heat-treated guard guarantees resilience, while the ergonomic grip offers a more substantial feel for superior handling during extended practice sessions.

FEATURES:

  • Light and accurate: Approximately 1 kilogram, optimized for Meyer’s fencing techniques.
  • Heat-treated guard and blade: Ensures durability and impact resistance.
  • Diamond wide blade with Schilt: Enhances finger protection and facilitates thumb-on-blade techniques, increasing safety.
  • Straight wide crossguard with knuckle bow: Provides reliable hand protection and structural stability.
  • Blunt edges, high flexibility, and thickened tip: Prioritizes safety in HEMA training and competition.
  • Historical design with modern upgrades: Based on Meyer’s treatise illustrations, tailored for Historical European Martial Arts and historical fencing.

The Meyer Rapier blends historical authenticity with innovative design, and pairs seamlessly with a parrying dagger or a case of swords, offering an essential tool for fencers dedicated to mastering Meyer’s techniques.
