Chevalier Sidesword: The Bold Virtuoso

The Chevalier Sidesword Op.II, or Opera Seconda, is the refined second edition of our classic Chevalier. The name was inspired by the remarkable Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, an 18th-century fencing champion and composer who, through his diversity as an Afro-European, celebrated both in the prowess and in the innovation he brought to dueling and music. Even though the sword obviously belongs to an earlier period and tradition, the homage is meant to honor his bold spirit, intellect and exceptional skill, all of which resonate with the timeless appeal of this refined weapon.

Our latest redesign focused on making it fully ambidextrous, thanks to the straight fish-tail quillons, and improving wrist ergonomics with the new curvy fig pommel and a rounded, convex disc pommel, completely interchangeable, advancing our universal “Modular Sword System™” goal. The grip offers a more substantial feel for better handling, while the guard is heat-treated. The Chevalier’s double and symmetrical small ports offer balanced coverage, gracefully shielding both the inside and outside of the hand for an adaptable, refined defense.
