Belladama Knightly Sword: The Power of Beauty

The Belladama Knightly Sword is a remarkable homage to the historical arming sword housed in the Wallace Collection, inventory number A.460, which dates back to the late 14th century, between 1350 and 1400. This sword iconically embodies the powerful elegance of late-medieval arms.

Esteemed collector and arms historian Ewart Oakeshott suggested that the original blade was likely a type XVIII, later altered to a type XV through restoration. The grip, along with the blackened pommel and crossguard, were likely 19th-century modifications as well. Scholars concur that this quintessential late-medieval arming sword was probably French in origin, possibly discovered in a river. Our historically accurate arming sword reproduction captures its authentic medieval appearance.

Furthermore, the scabbard work benefits from the guidance of art conservator Dr. Giovanni Rotondi, whose expertise was pivotal in the recreation of the scabbard fittings. These fittings were modeled after English sword fittings from the early 14th century, recovered from the Thames at Westminster and now housed in the London Museum.

Entirely handmade without templates, Belladama is a unique work of art, with slight asymmetries and distinct marks of craftsmanship that give the sword its own character.
